Semi-Private Training
What is Semi-Private Training?
A small group of people exercising together in a planned and carefully constructed program is the basis of semi-private training. The small group size and personal attention to each member leads to individualized support and motivation helping each member to achieve personal fitness goals. It’s like private training but at group prices.
Many experiences are nicer when they are shared with someone else. Exercising as a group has many health and additional benefits. When you engage in group personal training you have a built in support system that provides encouragement and motivation for continuing with your fitness routines. This can be especially helpful for those funky days when you just do not feel like exercising.
All too often, people sign up at their local gym with the best of intentions, only to quit going after just a couple of weeks. The main reason for the early resignation is the lack of support and frustration.
Without the advice of a personal trainer, many people find it difficult to know which exercises to do and in what sequence or routine. In addition, it is not easy to keep pushing yourself to your fullest potential if you work out by yourself.
How it Works

Benefits of Semi-Private personal Training
- Get support on your fitness journey: Group fitness is a great way to meet like-minded and like-motivated individuals. You’ll find you share common goals and interest which can be a great motivator to work hard in class and create accountability for coming back week after week.
- Have Fun: We play games, tell jokes, and challenge our sense of boredom with greater success because of the group dynamic. Forget watching the clock! The pace of group fitness classes makes the time fun and the energy level of the instructor makes you forget you’re working hard (okay, sometimes!).
- Get Personal Attention – Get more of the trainers coaching and support than in larger fitness classes.
- Save Money: Personal training is roughly three times the cost semi-private trainging.
- Look and Feel Great: Engage in targeted exercises that work the whole body. These effective workouts, based on the latest scientific fitness principles to get toned, improve strength and mobility and to lose fat. The benefits you gain with a workout also save you money on health care, as people who workout are far less likely to get sick and also recover from illness and injury quicker than non-exercisers.
- Get Motivated: Having someone telling you to work harder and encouraging you to take your fitness to the next level will get you there. The trainer sets the tone, while having others in class offers another level of motivation through a tiny bit of competition and camaraderie.
- Be Challenged: Be challenged to work harder. You want to keep pace, meaning you will be challenged to work harder. Studies have proven that working out with a group results in a bigger calorie burn.
- Learn Something New: Our well trained and experienced trainers will show you how to work your body and muscles properly. You will be learning new, effective excersices using the TRX, kettlebells, and other fitness tools. Trying something different challenges both your mind and body, two things that ward off the effects of aging.
- Be Safe: When beginning a new or different fitness routine, feeling safe and being safe are key. We pay special attention to alignment and safety, no matter what you’re doing. The trainer will be able to help explain and model what you’re doing, how to do it, and what you should be feeling. Never hesitate to ask questions or as for alternative exercises if you need additional assistance.
- Join the Group, or Go Your Own Way: Our experienced trainer will offer modifications that allow for different fitness levels among the participants.
- Save Time: One benefit to group fitness is that the classes fit right into the busy lifestyles that many people today live. People are overloaded at work, busy with their families and fulfilling all of their daily obligations. No one seems to be able to find the time to give his or her body the attention that it needs to stay strong and healthy. Fitness experts around the world agree that group fitness is one of the fastest ways to get your body in great shape.
In every session, muscle groups all over the body are targeted and strengthened systematically. The entire body gets toned all at once. The intensity of these classes makes it important to rest in between sessions. That is why the group fitness schedule of just a couple of classes each week is perfect.
Sessions generally include
Foam rolling, joint mobility, and movement prep – special attention to “rehab” for individuals. (An opportunity to take a physical therapy approach to what’s bothering you – this is VERY individualized and controlled easily within our class format.)= 5-8mins of concentrated time.
Specific focus on corrective drills as a group – we will focus on the main problem areas for most people, low back mobility and strength, knee flexion strength, ankle mobility and stability, shoulder and hip range of motion – 5-8mins
Skill work – to train your neurological system we need to make sure we’re constantly practicing, learning new things, challenging balance, awakening new metabolic fibers – what that means for you, is a more aware body (mind-muscle connection) can respond to training stimulus better thereby improving results response – 10 mins.
(By the way – this “warmup” all feels like working out to most people)
Circuits of the day – this is the fun part. We get stronger, breathe hard, push ourselves to limits we didn’t think we could. The result is we have fun, and better our sense of self. – 12-16 mins.
Conditioning and Core – we still plug away but with less focus on muscular load and more focus on bodyweight and core tension. Think Pilates and yoga and calisthenics, and now think all those mixed together with no rest between them – sounds fun! – 10 mins
Recovery Training and Nutrition Review – better than ever before, we want to do MORE with nutrition support. BW-PT has a bunch of knowledge and resources that I feel have been under used. In our personal training sessions because we get so caught up on “doing the exercise” that we forget to FOCUS on recovering and feeding the exercise. We will include journals and hold accountable the entries (one can use an online system if they prefer), we will review our goal board (a new addition) and plan and track success! – 5-8 mins.
